Newborn Life Casting in Oban, Argyll and Bute.

What is newborn life casting

There's something incredibly emotional about seeing how tiny your baby once was. One minute you're cradling your precious baby and the next, you're negotiating snacks with a toddler. You're left wondering how time sprints so fast. Newborn Life casting is a beautiful way to preserve your baby's tiny hands and feet as a detailed 3D keepsake you can treasure forever.

At Ada Studio Oban, I create bespoke baby casts in a calm, newborn-friendly studio environment across oban and Argyll & Bute designed to capture every little crease, fold and detail before they change so quickly.

These keepsakes become timeless pieces of artwork for your home and a beautiful reminder of just how small your baby once was.

What is a baby cast?

A baby cast is a highly detailed 3D mould of your baby's hands or feet, created using safe baby friendly materials called Alginate.

Aliginate is the same materials commonly used by dentists to take dental impressions, and it's derived from seaweed making it perfectly suitable for your baby’s delicate skin.

The finished casts can be

• Beautifully framed

• Paired with newborn photographs

• Finished in a range of colours

• Displayed in a luxury keepsakes in your home.

Every cast is unique and captures details that photographs alone simply cannot preserve.

When Should newborn Life Casting be Done?

The best time for newborn life casting is during the newborn stage, while babies are still tiny and curled up, ideally within the first few weeks after birth.

However, casting can also be done for

• Older babies
• Sitter Sessions
• First birthdays
• Siblings
• Family Casts
• Couples clasp cast

Many parents choose to combine newborn photography and life casting together to create a complete collection of memories from these fleeting early days.

Is newborn life casting safe

Absolutely.

Your baby's safety and comfort are always my priority at Ada Studio Oban. The moulding material used during the casting process is called Alginate, a gentle material derived from natural seaweed extracts and widely used for both dental and body casting .

Originally designed for dental impressions, alginate has been adapted for external body casting and is ideal for capturing every tiny wrinkle, crease and detail of your baby's hands and feet.

If you've ever had a dental mould taken, you may already be familiar with alginate, the same gentle material used during the casting process. It is skin safe, non- toxic and widely used for both dental and body casting.

Casting process

Baby safe moulding material called alginate is carefully prepared before your baby’s hand or foot is gently placed inside. The material sets very quickly (1-2 minutes) to a soft rubber-like consistency, capturing every tiny crease, wrinkle in beautiful details.

Once the mould has set, your baby's hand or foot is gently removed. High quality casting plaster is then poured into the mould to create your finished cast.

Every cast is carefully refined, finished and prepared into your chosen display style, creating a timeless keepsakes to treasure forever.

Why Parents Love Baby Casting

Babies change so quickly during that first year. Tiny fingers become chunkier, little toes stretch and grow and before you know it, those newborn details are gone.

Newborn life casting allows you to:

• Freeze those tiny details in time
• create meaningful artwork for your home
• preserve memories beyond photographs
• Create a keepsake that becomes even more valuable with time.
